Mr Leon Bouwer is a specialist optometrist with:

• Over 25 years of international experience, starting in his native South Africa before moving to New Zealand and finally the UK.

• Over 25 years of education, as an undergraduate in Johannesburg, taught by New England College of Optometry (Boston) in disease management, and London and Belfast for specialist diplomas. Sharing his experience by looking after undergraduates at the patient clinics in City University, London and teaching in practice. He is also most of the way to becoming an Independent Prescriber.

• Extensive experience in all-round primary eye care practice, working closely with local eye surgeon colleagues and hospitals, as well as running specialist clinics (such as sore/red eye and glaucoma clinics) in practice for Moorfields.

• Specialist expertise in:

  • advanced contact lenses (including complex medical conditions and keratoconus)

  • dry eye diagnosis and treatment (including treatments such as IPL, gland expression and punctal occlusion)

  • managing the aging eye and associated conditions

  • children's vision (including myopia control with overnight lenses)
